What is the Discover Tec Experience?

Think of Discover Tec as a hands-on introduction to a new realm of diving. This isn’t a full certification; it’s a controlled experience designed to let you see if the world of tec diving is your next great adventure. You will gear up in a full technical rig—like a twinset (double tanks) or a sleek sidemount configuration—and feel what it’s like to move through the water with a new level of capability and self-sufficiency. It’s your chance to see if the challenge, discipline, and rewards of tec diving are the right fit for you.

This stress-free environment allows you to focus completely on the new equipment and skills without having to worry about current, waves, or poor visibility. It’s the most comfortable and confidence-inspiring introduction to tec diving you could ask for.

What You’ll Learn and Do

In this half-day program, you’ll work side-by-side with one of our seasoned TecRec Instructors to:

  • Gear Up Like a Pro: Assemble and don a full set of technical scuba gear. You’ll learn the purpose of the extra equipment and how it contributes to safety and redundancy.
  • Master Foundational Tec Skills: In the water, you’ll be introduced to the core skills that form the bedrock of technical diving. This includes practicing a primary to secondary regulator switch and executing gas shutdown procedures—fundamental safety drills for any tec diver.
  • Experience Perfect Trim: You’ll discover how a tec configuration can help you achieve a new level of perfect horizontal trim and control in the water.

Course Details & Structure

  • Diver Prerequisites:
    • Certified PADI Open Water Diver
    • Minimum age: 15 years old
    • At least 10 logged dives

    Note: Divers aged 15 to 17 will complete the experience without a decompression cylinder.

  • Included in the Program:
    • All required PADI materials (no eLearning required).
    • Instructor-led knowledge development session.
    • One comprehensive confined water (or pool-like open water) dive.
    • Full rental of specialized technical diving equipment.
  • Duration: Approximately half a day.
