Enter the World of Technical Diving: The PADI Tec 40 Course
You’ve mastered your recreational skills. You’re a confident and experienced diver who feels the powerful allure of what lies deeper. You look down the magnificent walls of Balicasag Island, watch your no-decompression limit shrink, and know that you’re ready for the next level of challenge and exploration.
The PADI Tec 40 course is your gateway. It’s the first official step on the PADI TecRec ladder, designed to transition you from the world of recreational diving into the disciplined and rewarding realm of technical diving. This is where you go beyond limits, learn to plan for longer bottom times, and begin your journey into the deep.
What is the PADI Tec 40 Course?
The Tec 40 course is your comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of technical diving. This is where you move beyond a single-tank setup and learn the theory, planning, and in-water skills required for limited decompression diving. You will gain the knowledge and experience to safely extend your bottom time, giving you more opportunity to explore the deeper sections of Bohol’s world-class dive sites.
Upon successful completion, you will be a certified PADI Tec 40 Diver, qualified to:
- Plan and execute limited decompression dives to a maximum depth of 40 meters (130 feet).
- Use a single decompression cylinder with up to 50% oxygen (EANx50) to make your decompression more conservative and efficient.
- Dive in a full technical gear configuration, like a twinset or sidemount.
The Bohol Advantage: Training on World-Class Deep Walls
There is no substitute for learning in a real-world environment, and Bohol provides the ultimate natural classroom for tec training. The spectacular, vertical walls of Balicasag Island, which plummet far beyond recreational limits, are the perfect setting to conduct your training dives. You won’t just be practicing on a line in the open blue; you’ll be applying your new skills while exploring a breathtaking, living ecosystem. The calm, clear conditions allow you to focus entirely on your training, making the learning process both effective and incredibly scenic.
What You’ll Master in the Tec 40 Course
This is a deep dive into the discipline of technical diving. Under the close mentorship of our experienced PADI TecRec Instructors, you will:
- Master Decompression Planning: Learn to use desktop software and dive computers to plan and execute decompression dives, calculating your gas needs and managing your oxygen exposure.
- Gain Proficiency with Technical Gear: Become comfortable with a new equipment configuration, mastering the use of double tanks (twinset) or a sidemount rig, along with a dedicated decompression cylinder.
- Drill Critical Safety Skills: Practice essential in-water skills, including gas shutdowns, regulator switching, and managing simulated emergencies with precision and control.
- Develop the Tec Mindset: Cultivate the discipline, situational awareness, and meticulous attention to detail that are the hallmarks of a safe and competent technical diver.
